The Pool Garden House

Situated within the complex waterways of Gables Estates, in Coral Gables Florida, The Pool Garden House blends bold formal gestures with regional design cues, steeped in tradition. Oriented around a generous central courtyard, a design strategy favored in the Mediterranean and tropics for millennia, each room enjoys beautiful views out to the courtyard as well as front and side yards, creating a feeling of complete immersion in a sprawling tropical garden. A long, thin, lap pool stretches through the entire home, and forms a striking visual axis through the home’s richly layered spatial conditions, from the interior foyer to the semi-enclosed courtyard, to the covered exterior living space, and finally out to the waterway itself. In this manner, the lush tropical vegetation and vast linear canals of the site are woven into the architecture of “the residence”.
The long pool and courtyard also divide the home into two discrete wings. The western portion is the private wing, with two bedrooms, a gym and private lounge and workspace. To the East, the public wing offers a generous formal living room, library, bar, home theater formal dining space, kitchen and both interior and covered exterior family room and dining spaces, with direct access to the canal facing pool deck.
